The Virtual London Marathon is a unique event, as it allows you to take part in one of the most biggest and most exciting challenge events in the world, but completely on your own terms.
If you choose to run in support of the National Literacy Trust, you will be contributing to breaking the cycle of poverty and low literacy in the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. You will also be helping us to continue running crucial projects such as our Ukraine Appeal, where we are distributing books, resources and stationary to refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

Fundraiser of the Month!
During the pandemic, Milan Kumar discovered that reading helped him to relax at a time where he couldn’t see his family and friends. This led to an interest in our work at the National Literacy Trust, as Milan felt passionate about ensuring that all children have access to books. As a result, he has spent over two years fundraising for us, and on his 10th birthday he reached his target of £10,000! Thank you for all your hard work, Milan!

Bradford Celebrates 25 Years of Harry Potter
Last month our Bradford Hub, in partnership with Bloomsbury, hosted a storytelling and poetry session to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone. The children performed their own bewitching ‘poetry spells’ as well as sharing their favourite moments in the book.

Pride Month Events
To celebrate Pride Month, author and illustrator Harry Woodgate ran an interactive session exploring their book Grandad’s Camper.
Grandad’s Camper celebrates love in all its forms, as Grandad tells his granddaughter about the adventures he used to have with Gramps in their camper van. Now that Gramps isn’t around any more, Grandad doesn’t feel like having adventures, but Grandad’s granddaughter has a wonderful idea to cheer him up…

Early years Focused Criminal Justice Work
As part of the Hungry Little Minds campaign, we recently ran events in two prisons. We provided parents and carers with goody bags that included some simple and easy to understand resources and books to help boost their little ones’ literacy and language development.
This educational support is important because nearly two-thirds of people who enter prisons are assessed as having the literacy skills expected of an 11-year-old. As a result, they often do not have the confidence to read to their children or support their education. Our work in prisons is designed to give those in prison a way to connect with their children through storytelling and reading when they receive prison visits.
